“Oh, Bess, Oh Where’s My Bess” comes the cry from an anguished Ray Charles on his double-LP Porgy And Bess project with Cleo Laine from 1976. At this point in the drama, Ray’s Porgy has just gotten out of jail and is panicked that his beloved Bess has run off with another man. It’s a riveting performance, leading to “Oh, Bess, Oh Where’s My Bess” being on the only single to be released from Porgy And Bess.
