“Jumpin’ In The Mornin'”

Song by Ray Charles

Appears on

1953: 45rpm B-side

1959: What'd I Say (compilation album)

“Jumpin’ In The Mornin'” was on Ray Charles’ second-ever Atlantic single, in 1953. It’s every bit the sizzling R&B workout its title suggests; Ray would develop his music a thousandfold during his time at Atlantic and “Jumpin’ In The Mornin'” points to his earlier style as found on his series of Swing Time 78s.

Despite its provenance “Jumpin’ In The Mornin'” was overlooked when Atlantic was compiling Ray’s singles onto now-indispensable albums until their third such LP, 1959’s What’d I Say. You can find it there, get lucky enough to score an original yellow-label 45, or look for an MP3, box set or other compilation to groove to “Jumpin’ In The Mornin'”.
