“Hallelujah I Love Her So” is one of Ray Charles’ most famous songs, and that’s saying something. From 1956, smack dab in the middle of his golden Atlantic years, “Hallelujah I Love Her So” built on the precedent set on 1954’s “I’ve Got A Woman”, using religious and gospel influences (i.e., the joyous shout “hallelujah!”) to sing about more fleshly matters. “Hallelujah I Love Her So”, incidentally one of the first recordings ever made by the teenage Beatles, appears on virtually every RC compilation worth its salt including 1957’s Ray Charles, Ray’s singles-compiling first-ever LP. It’s not only one of the easiest Ray Charles songs to track down but also one of the most vital.
